To Exit Darkness we Need Light

As I was reading Psalms this morning, I came to this set of scriptures that just stopped me in my tracks as the Spirit just flooded over me.

Psalm 119:129-130

"Your testimonies are wonderful; Therefore my soul keeps them. The entrance of your words gives light..."

I've probably read these many times but for some reason they just pierced my soul with understanding.

The testimonies are the scriptures - the Word of God - they are so wonderful. So amazing. Our soul just soaks them in. We want to absorb them and hide them in our hearts always. That is awesome.

But it was verse 130 that just took my breath away. "The entrance of Your words gives light". The more I read it, the more it just washed over me like a refreshing rain. Whose words? God's Words. The inspired, God-breathed Word.

The word entrance literally means 'opening'. The unfolding and unveiling of the Words of God give us light! They illumine our darkened souls. The things that we alone in our flesh can't understand, the Spirit reveals in the unfolding of the scripture to our thirsty souls and hungry hearts.

For some reason this morning I needed that refreshment. I needed that revelation in my spirit.

We are spiritually blind until our eyes are opened through the study of His precious Word.

We can walk aimlessly in this life searching and never finding. Reaching out and never receiving. Looking but not fully seeing.

Until we search the Word, find Jesus, reach out to Him and receive His precious gift of salvation - we will remain spiritually blinded to the Truth of His Word and will be lost and wandering in the darkness.

But if allow Christ to unfold the scripture in our hearts and we accept Him and His Word, then when we look up we will see Him for who He is and the darkness will fade and we will be enveloped in His Glorious Light.

"As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world" (John 9:5)

"Apart from you , there is no God.
Light of the world.
The bright and morning star.
Your name will shine, for all to see.
You are the One.
You are my Glory! (Chris Tomlin)

Thank you Lord, for your Word. You are awesome and amazing. You are truly the light of the world. Thank you for the gift of salvation, the truth of your Word and the promise of your return.

Glory to God in the Highest!

Beth

The Word of God sometimes is so familiar, and yet it can jump off the page and just grip your heart! The words, "if you seek Him you will find Him" come to mind. God is always ready to give an answer when we are looking.
Enjoy your day of remembrance!
Blessings ~ Lisa

Good stuff. In Psalm 6 I think it is, the bible says his words bring brightness to our eyes. You are a gifted writer Beth!

Makes me think of Psalm 119: and I really hadn't thought of that until I went to reply. May I remember that He and His word are the only LIGHTS that I need...the True Light.

You are precious!

I ditto what Lisa said above. I was thinking that as I read your message how the Word can at times be familiar I would dare say too familiar and we can skim over or miss something but thank the LORD He returns us to His word over and over again.

Beautiful message dear sister. Love ya.

God is so good to give us eyes to see and ears to hear His beauty. It is wonderful when those verses just penetrate your hear! Thanks Beth!

Don't you just love it when something in His Word just jumps off the page at you? Especially when you've read it before. It's such an "aha" moment! And then, of course, you wonder why you were blind to it until that very moment. Probably because God knew we weren't ready for that particular revelation until such a time as this.

Blessings to you!

Beth,
Often times it is the verse we read over and over that take on new meaning to us at certain times in our lives. I love that about our Abba ~~ He keeps pouring His Word and the deeper meaning through every season of our lives.

Love you friend,
Dawn

Thanks for praying for me. I really appreciate reading that.

I hope your husband will accomplish everything that God has for him to do while he is here in our country!

This post somehow just sparked an excitement in my heart... esp where you wrote about how the entrance of his words gives light!

Wow, that is really true. When his light comes, darkness discouragement fear doubt negativism pessimism anxiety ... all have to flee!

Oh Beth - I'm so thrilled to see God showing yet another theme for today as we had our prayer meeting tonight in the Prayer Room for our dear sister, Debbie.

God's theme was Psalm 139 - all day - even with Debbie's husband when I was there this morning and I was able to feed her.

We read and prayed [tonight] the entire Psalm 139 - but these verses stuck out and God showed them to me the last few days. I just about screamed with JOY as I read your title post!

Ps. 139:11-12
11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,"

12 even the darkness will not be dark to You;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to You.

Even as our sister, Debbie, has pulled herself inward - to hide from the world - God is still there and with her and inside of her - and the darkenss she sees is like light to Him! Wow! We know that God has her under His wings, hidden and held by His right hand as He sings over her. Please continue to pray for her and her husband Paul and 2 little girls, Rachel and Samantha.

Great Post and I love the new family pictures - all of them - and a great one of you and Jimbo!

Blessings precious Beth!

Choosing JOY,
Stephanie

This spirital walk sometimes is discouraging, but HE always does something special for us to let us know that HE is here and HE has been with us...I think that "scriputre" jumping from the page is my favorite way that HE speaks to me...better than a song...better than kind words from others...

"Lord, I am asking on favor of my friend Beth that you show yourself to her today and each and everyday. Whatever her need is I know that you hear...Whatever valley she is walking through you are there. I ask that as she seeks diligently, that you show and fill her spirit...I ask that you make her cup runeth over! AMEN"
